The Course In Review

Over the course of this semester I have learned a lot of things about how to better prepare for my future. To be completely honest, when I registered for this course I expected to be writing the typical mundane papers on topics I could not care less about. Fortunately, this course exceeded my expectations and successfully related the course back to my career path and actually helped me prepare better for writing in my future. Because of this course, I have been able to identify and work on the weak areas I have in writing and will continue to work on becoming better throughout my entire life.

Because of this course I have identified the areas I need to improve in and can do more work to fix my shortcomings before applying for the workforce. Most notably, in the future I need to learn to think outside the box for ideas and solutions to problems in my personal life and the work setting. I always look at everything with a more concrete stance, however many issues are not solved by one concrete solution.

Another area that needs improvement is how I handle myself on my social media platforms as almost every employer now searches potential employees pages for red flags. Having pretty strong political beliefs may feel good to post and argue about at the moment but looks bad in the eyes of the employer, especially if they have opposing views. Keeping social media clean and periodically scrubbing it will make sure nothing stay there that should not.

I also need to realize more what type of writing to use and when. Many times emails I send to managers and other employees are super formal and professional, but they do not necessarily always need to be. Keeping emails appropriate for the directed audience will gain more support and respect from everyone receiving the material.

All in all I considered myself a strong writer before this course and believe I am even stronger now. Taking this course has definitely helped me prepare better for my future and has most likely saved me from making mistakes early on in my career. I actually enjoyed taking this course and although it was a good bit of work each week it truly helped.
